Life Skills Class

Does your dog pull on walks? Tune you out? Struggle to cope around strangers or strange dogs? Refuse to relax? You’re not alone! And you don’t have to live that way.

At In The Pink, we have created a uniquely holistic Life Skills class, designed to accommodate dogs of all ages and obedience skill levels, who struggle with one or more aspects of our so-called ‘normal’ everyday lives.

Taking place on private property in a controlled environment, the class begins with a 400m parallel walking exercise where dogs can learn polite leash-walking skills and become accustomed to the proximity of new dogs, people and even livestock in a non-confrontational way.

We look at your equipment, your relationship with your dog, and help you learn the subtleties of body language and how you can improve your handling skills to better communicate with your dog.

Next, we move on to our securely fenced agility training area, where we use the building blocks of basic agility training to improve your dog’s confidence and cement your bond as a team. We want your dog to know you’ve got his back, and that no matter what, you’re proud of what he can do when you work together. Meanwhile, focusing his attention on learning new physical skills whilst in the safe presence of other people and dogs gives your dog just enough distraction not to react to them, whilst remaining sufficiently aware of them to gradually acclimate to their presence.

Finally, we return along our 400m trail, taking advantage of all the dogs’ now lowered arousal to make breakthroughs in their social skills, watch for physical difficulties, and make plans for their progress.

Life Skills class takes place every Sunday at 3pm in Taggerty, and costs $20 per class. Contact us to reserve your spot!
